“Active Transportation” = Less obesity according to study

Posted by Phil G-E on December 21, 2008

This Associated Press article was published in the Goshen News a few days ago. I thought this deserved attention, especially given Adam’s post on Cycling and Health (Dec. 16).

Good stuff! Of course it’s just a correlation, which doesn’t prove causality. It could be that less obese people prefer to drive less, or it could be that some other causes, like overall health-consciousness or lower incomes, are causing both of those. After all, I presume not too many Somalians drive to work and obesity rates are very low there.

Still, it’s a good thing to know, and certainly suggests that it’s worth looking into! Thanks!
