Ghost bikes in the news

Posted by Paul Taylor on September 22, 2009

I first saw ghost bikes in Seattle, WA some five years ago. I didn’t know they had a name, but I did know they made a statement. Then a couple of them sprung up here in Michiana. Today, they made news in the South Bend Tribune. Read the Tribune article here.

Paul, the link leads to a paid archive site that never displayed the article. Could you please summarize what you can remember?

The article was from one of the syndicates: not locally written. It explained that the purpose of the bikes was to serve as memorials for cyclist who lost their lives while riding on the road. It had a photograph of one, and went on to give some specific personal stories relating to the bikes.

The story had good placement, and a large photograph, so I suspect it had good readership.
